The Radioactive Booger

He watched the snollie move up her finger like a caterpillar, its little green back rising and hunching and then pushing it forward.

“Are you even listening to me?” she accused. His gaze meandered guiltily over the ornate pattern of her scarf, avoiding her face on the way to her pink-brown beanie, which wrapped around her head and down her jawline like a head-crab, its pincers gripping absurdly along the sides of her beautiful face. Her stormy eyes were flashing like a home made cordial and he winced as she kicked him under the table.

“The hack would have to start with Morgenthau.”

“The CCO?” She bit her thick lips, swirling her wine. The cafe was very noisy. All kinds here.

“And we need China – the Unbeliever’s Army – for the rootkit.”

Shayla kicked him again harder. “You’re going to get us killed.”

He pulled his black hoodie further over his face, hiding the live code that cascaded from his temple and onto his shoulder, disappearing into radio waves and connecting him with the cafe’s server. Shayla’s cat ears flickered nervously from side to side, growing upwards and elongating as she adjusted her mutation so that she looked something like a karakal.

The booger jumped off her finger onto the plate, where it grew legs, supercharged and then crawled off awkwardly, glowing like a radioactive crayon.

The hacker pulled some rogue code from his temple and slammed it on the table where it made some strange giggling sounds.

“This is what we need, see how it cuts?” He gestured and the code flexed and fluxed like a high swordfish.

“Morgenthau is impenetrable, have you seen the neural wiring remixes he’s got installed?”

The hacker pushed the rogue code into the wooden table, where it absorbed with a few rude squeaks.

“Nothing is impenetrable,” he smirked, as he watched the supercharged snollie leap into a sewer drain on its way to Morgenthau’s apartment.
